Teaching, Learning
and the Curriculum

Our teachers will be trained, qualified and registered with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. As part of this registration they will have to adhere to all Registration guidelines and standards. The teachers will plan and teach according to the appropriate needs and level of each student.

The educational curriculum will align with the Australian National Curriculum. Therefore, subjects such as English, Science, Geography, History, The Arts, Health and Physical Education will be taught. The natural environment and special context of Cadell will also be taken into consideration. Please note that:

  • The primary school curriculum covers ages from 5 – 12 years, Reception through to Year 6.

  • All academic areas of the curriculum and will follow a scope and sequence to enable learning to progress through each year level.

  • Following the Australian Curriculum allows for easy implementation of the same curriculum across these year levels. Students within a multi-age classroom can reach the same achievement standards as the teaching will be based on their needs. Our teachers will have had experience in teaching to the various ranges of ability, age and needs of all of their students.

It is important to note that Sahaja Yoga lessons will also be taught based on Shri Mataji’s teachings. Where possible Sahaja Yoga philosophy will be woven throughout other lessons.

Sahaja Curriculum Structure

“The amount of education you have had, nobody had before, no saint had it. So now take full advantage. Whatever your age may be, education, qualification may be, that doesn’t matter, but you should all know what is Sahaja Yoga, what it means, how it works out."

(Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, Melbourne, 17 March 1985)

We will be working on a Sahaja Yoga curriculum from Shri Mataji’s teachings and based on the Sahaja education in other SY schools. We will use the wealth of experience and knowledge of these schools and have a desire to collaborate together. We will be developing learning objectives, a growing set of lesson plans and a collection of methods that teachers can use to guide students towards a deep mastery of Sahaja Yoga knowledge. Such examples include:  knowledge of the subtle system, practical abilities of meditation, worship and protocol, stories of saints and deities, the life of Shri Mataji, the genesis of Sahaja Yoga and the ability to integrate into and contribute positively within society.

In addition we will endeavour to include extra-curricular classes such as Hindi, Dance and opportunities to learn a musical instrument.

Guiding Principles

The curriculum and the lesson plans ...

  • reflect Shri Mataji’s teachings

  • are pedagogically sound

  • guide students to imbibe this knowledge, going beyond mere analysis or synthesis on a mental level

  • are approved by the schools and education authorities of the state.
